Xurya, a renewable energy startup that pioneered the IDR 0,- method in financing solar rooftop system (PLTS Atap), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PLN Main Unit Distribution (UID) West Java on Thursday (27/07), which aims to encourage the development of new and renewable energy (NRE) in the West Java region. Xurya and PLN UID West Java agreed to work together to make it easier for the community to manage and access NRE in the West Java region. Previously, Xurya had also collaborated with PLN Icon Plus at the beginning of July. Eka Himawan, Managing Director of Xurya said, "We are very enthusiastic to announce our cooperation with PLN UID West Java in encouraging the acceleration of NRE usage in West Java. PLN and Xurya have different expertise. Referring to that, I am confident that the collaboration between PLN and Xurya will combine the best expertise and experience from both parties in creating a positive impact to maintain environmental sustainability. In particular, this collaboration will also bring NRE closer to industrial players in West Java, and thus will encourage wider adoption of clean energy." One of the main focuses in this collaboration is the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) program, where Xurya will become one of the official partners of PLN UID West Java for REC sales. REC is a clean energy certification mechanism that allows companies or other entities to support and participate in the development of NRE by purchasing clean energy certificates from an NRE generator to be used as a deduction for carbon emissions accounting. Referring to PLN UID West Java's internal data, as of July 2023, RECs that have been issued by PLN UID West Java are around 416,333 units from 369 transactions. With this MoU, it is hoped that PLN's REC will be more widely used by companies, which of course will further encourage sustainable NRE development. Previously, in a press release on December 14 2021, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources revealed that as part of achieving the EBT mix target of 23% in 2025, the private sector is expected to develop 54.4% of the total 3.2 GWp of on-grid PLTS. Considering that Xurya is one of the largest companies in PLTS Atap industry for the commercial and industrial sectors, this MoU becomes a strategic step by PLN UID West Java and Xurya in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and maintaining environmental sustainability. Through this collaboration, Xurya and PLN UID West Java are committed to jointly reducing dependence on fossil energy sources and are expected to open the possibility to better economic opportunities and environmental sustainability in West Java. In a joint statement, the two companies also stated their commitment to increasing the NRE usage in the energy portfolio in West Java, for example by coordinating more closely and periodically in following up on permits for NRE services in West Java. Susiana Mutia, General Manager of PLN UID West Java said "This collaboration is an innovative step for PLN UID West Java in supporting the Electrifying Lifestyle program as part of PLN's efforts to support the government in increasing the use of NRE. This collaboration is in line with our vision to become a world-class electricity company that contributes to Indonesia's sustainable development. Also, it becomes a part of our commitment to continue to innovate, expand the use of renewable energy, and carry out environmentally responsible business practices. The collaboration with Xurya will help us to make it easier for people in West Java, especially industrial players, to manage and access NRE. ” To date, Xurya has more than 100 PLTS Atap projects spread across Medan, Palembang, Lampung, West Java, Banten, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, Bali and Makassar. The Xurya Rooftop PLTS project is estimated to be able to produce more than 130 million kWh of clean energy and create more than 3,100 green jobs.
