PT Arwana Citramulia Tbk (Arwana Ceramics), an issuer of ceramic and porcelain factories in Indonesia, has begun to switch to using solar energy (solar rooftop system) for their operational activities at one of their factory located in Mojokerto Regency, East Java. The use of Solar Rooftop System since June 2022 is a form of company support to increase the mix of renewable energy in their production activities and as an effort to reduce carbon emissions while also fulfilling their commitment to implement Green Industry Standards. Edy Suyanto, Operational Director of PT Arwana Citramulia Tbk stated, “The solar rooftop system installation at our ceramic factory plant 5 (PL5) in Mojokerto is a form of our commitment in supporting Indonesia renewable energy transition. The use of environmentally friendly energy for our production activities is also a form of our consistent effort in implementing Green Industry that is low carbon and also implementing Green Economy,” With the solar rooftop system in factory PL5 Mojokerto operating, 10-20% of the total energy consumption for production process and supporting facilities now utilize renewable energy. This solar rooftop system installation is developed by Xurya Daya, a renewable energy startup pioneering no investment method for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector. There are 4,554 solar modules installed on the roof of Arwana Ceramics factory capable of producing 2,920,375 kWh per year and reducing CO2 emissions as much as 2,727,630 kg every year. Eka Himawan, Managing Director of Xurya stated, “this initiative by Arwana Ceramics proves that companies, while focusing on profit, should also give a positive impact on the environment and society. This project does not only contributes to reducing CO2 production, it also indirectly creates green jobs and we very much appreciate this initiative by Arwana Ceramics,” Switching to solar electricity is not the only action that Arwana Ceramics implemented for implementing a sustainable business. Previously, the company has also apply green industry concepts in its operational activities, such as using LED lights for the factory, using skylights during the day, carrying out 4R (reduce, reuse, recycle, & recovery), and using a heat recovery system that accesses heat from the kiln and reuses it to the spray dryer and managed to save 10-20% of gas energy use. Through this application, PT Arwana Citramulia Tbk has received the Green Industry Award from the Ministry of Industry with level 5 status from 2011 - 2021. “The green industry implementation is indeed our concern to realize a circular economy. This step is a form of our long-term investment in the environment, because the benefits will not be experienced in the near time, but in the future.” added Edy Suyanto.
